I’ve not been to Pipe Dream yet, so I don’t have the skinny for that crag, but It’s coming.

Rain and cold weather has shut us down for the next 3-4 days. Bummer. It seems the weather is a repeat of last spring: fantastic weather tues, wed, thursday then cold and miserable friday saturday and sunday.

Is there any mercy left?

Several days of sun have melted a considerable amount of snow. As a general rule, all south facing crags are snow-free and climbable with the higher elevation crags still having a snowy access.

The Left Hand Fork still has quite a bit of snow at the base of most climbs. The pipeline is snow free but the stream is running. You can drop gear on and belay from the off-cliff side of the stream.

Evenings have been in the low-mid 30′s. Seasonal winds have plagued a few good climbing days but you can usually find a crag sheltered from the wind.

Last weekend climbers were camping at the campground and groups were in the schoolroom.

The season has begun!

We were on the cusp of a snow-free road when a giant pacific storm blew in late saturday. I awoke to 6″ of gooey, sloppy snow in the back yard. The 7-day forecast is sun, sun, sun – so I anticipate the new snow will be gone by wednesday.

I climbed on the Road Kill Wall yesterday (before the storm). The trail was snow free except for a few intermittent patched here and there. The couloir right of Tomato Man had dumped it’s contents. The snow is quite deep there but you can easily climb the routes on either side.
